Except for any last minute change, 756 delegates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would choose the officials who will take the part in the South West area.
The Zonal Congress of the Southwest is scheduled to take place in Osogbo, the capital of the state of Osun, today.
However, there is tension, restlessness and anxiety in the region as contenders for several offices and their parents of God intensified movements to achieve their political objective.
Experts say that Congress, that has witnessed the postponation and change of place in the past, is likely to deepen the dispute between the Governor of the State of Oyo Seyi Makinde and the former governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose.
Although both are not on the ballots, they have anointed candidates for the survey.
While it is said that Makinde is supporting a former Deputy Governor of the State of Oyo, Ambassador Taofeek Areapaja, it is said that Fayose is encouraging the return of the immediate national vice president of the party, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, who is in Ondo .
All efforts to reconcile Makinde and Fayose by the National Labor Committee (NWC) of PDP, the National Reconciliation Committee of Senator Bukola Saraki, and Governor Wike Nyesom, Rivers State, have been abortive.
The Leal to Fayose Camp has requested the National President of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus on “alleged launch of more than 150 voting documents for the election of the National Vice President and the Zonal Secretary to the group led by the Governor of the State of Oyo, ENGR Seyi Makinde “.
The request dated April 10, was signed by the chairman of the State of Ogun, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, on behalf of PDP chairman in Ekiti, Lagos and Osun States.
The chairman, who demanded that all voting documents to be used for Congress should be signed by Secondus, said they will resist any attempt to equip or hijack the process.
Mr. Lere Olayinka, Fayose spokesman said that the Loyal Camp to the Former Governor would participate in the election.
However, the secretary of Press in Chief of Governor Makinde said that her director is dedicated to stabilizing the PDP in the southwest.
The Top Echelon PDP has also assured that it would do everything possible to guarantee what happened at the Zonal Congress of North West did not happen again in southwest.
A former Secretary of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Prince Adela Adeoye, who recently joined PDP, said Congress would sustain, since those who alleged were sponsored by the external forces could not obtain an order of the court to stop the congress.
According to reports, delegates has began arriving at Oosogbo from Saturdays, ahead of the Congress of today.
Some chieftain of the party insinuated one of our correspondents yesterday that the part was in dilemma on the subject.
A delegate, Senator Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, who spoke with the journalists, however, said: “I do not see why the contest will polarize the party, all I know is that the party leader in the southwest is the governor Seyi Makinde “.
Another chieftain of the party loyal to Fayose who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said: “The current tension at the party was caused by the control of Makinde to control the PDP of the southwest.”
Meanwhile, a former presidential assistant, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has said that the result of the election could be negative due to the Battle of Supremacy between Fayose and Makinde.
