Just In: MTN prohibits subscribers from recharging through USSD

Published

Nigeria’s MTN has suspended its service, which allows customers to recharge their mobile phones via USSD codes.

MTN Nigeria has prevented its subscribers from using unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) codes to recharge or purchase data on their mobile phones.

This means that subscribers cannot use bank-specific USSD codes to recharge lines or purchase data packages.

When customers try to recharge through USSD codes, My MTNapp and financial technology companies such as FTS, the response is displayed as:

“Dear Customer, this service is temporarily unavailable. Kindly contact your Telecom service provider.”

Nigeria’s MTN also confirmed this development in emails sent to some of its partners, some of which are as follows:

“Dear Customer, Please be informed that some of Mycustomers may not be able to purchase airtime, and data recharge via banks including MOD, and myMTNApp.

Please pacify Mycustomers and educate them to use MTNTopit, MoMo channels, as well as the debit card options on MOD or myMTN App.”

However, EARLY REPORTERS also carried out findings on the new development by dialing 8221000# to recharge an MTN line owned by the news platform and the response from the Telecom company was, “Dear Customer, this service is temporarily unavailable. Kindly
contact your Telecom service provider.” the response read.

There’s love in sharing.
