BREAKING: Buhari Appoints Usman Baba As Acting IGP

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as Acting Inspector General of Police.

Police Minister Mohammed Maigari Dangyadi announced the news on Tuesday and gave a briefing to reporters in the House of Representatives.

He said that Usman appointment took effect immediately.

Special Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad also disclosed the appointment of Usman Baba’s as the new Acting IGP through his Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon saying “Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi discloses the President’s directive this afternoon, in Abuja.”

He tweeted: “JUST IN: President @MBuhari has appointed DIG Usman Alkali Baba as the new acting inspector-general of police, with immediate effect, Minister of Police Affairs Maigari Dingyadi discloses the President’s directive this afternoon, in Abuja.”

President Buhari however extended the term of Mohammed Adamu to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for three months on February 4, 2021.

Though, Adamu spent two months and three days in the three-month extension before the appointment of Baba.

The appointment of the acting IGP is subject to the approval of the upcoming meeting of the Council of State.
